This performance is the culmination of Wilson Chu’s his Masters degree at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, showcasing both his virtuoso skills as a pianist and his ability as a composer. As an Indonesian, Wilson was keen to use this final concert to explore the past and the present relationship between the piano and the gamelan music of his home country. As well as excerpts from Leopold Godowski’s gamelan-inspired ‘Java Suite’ of 1925 and works by Jaya Suprana and John Cage, the concert will see the first performance of Wilson’s own new work ‘Bersahut-Sahutan’ for gamelan, piano and voice.

Also featured in the concert will be a new work by group member J Simon van der Walt entitled ‘Prelude, Gantungan and Dance’ for gamelan, piano, and prepared piano.
