Part 2 – Live Performance
The second phase of the Floating Gold project explored synchronous remote collaboration, combining live in-person vocal/instrumental improvisation with online livecoding.
Rangga Purnama Aji composed a series of four graphical/text-based scores inspired by the story of St. Thenue, ocean pollution, accumulation of waste, and lively festivities:
- Waves and What Lies Within
- Vortex: Reresik
- Abstraction: St. Thenue
- Semarak
The first performance took place on 5 January 2023 at the Prangwedanan Mangkunegaran in Solo. Peni Candra Rini and Rangga Purnama Aji performed live in the venue alongside a gamelan group composed of students from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Surakarta, with the livecoding musicians from Gamelan Naga Mas joining virtually from Scotland and the USA.
