DESCRIPTION:Gamelan Naga Mas are delighted to welcome back to Glasgow Bapak Prasadiyanto\, master musician from Solo\, Indonesia. For the second year running Pak Prasad has been supported by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia to be resident in Glasgow for two months\, working with both members of Naga Mas and students at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. This celebratory concert will present the outcome of the project\, including a rare opportunity in Scotland to hear a full-length traditional Javanese gendhing.

SUMMARY:Gamelan and Piano at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland
DESCRIPTION:A unique collaboration between pianist Wilson Chu and the Glasgow Gamelan Group Naga Mas exploring the relationship between the piano and the gamelan. \nWatch the trailer! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYgydGNxgWo \nThis performance is the culmination of Wilson Chu’s his Masters degree at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland\, showcasing both his virtuoso skills as a pianist and his ability as a composer. As an Indonesian\, Wilson was keen to use this final concert to explore the past and the present relationship between the piano and the gamelan music of his home country. As well as excerpts from Leopold Godowski’s gamelan-inspired ‘Java Suite’ of 1925 and works by Jaya Suprana and John Cage\, the concert will see the first performance of Wilson’s own new work ‘Bersahut-Sahutan’ for gamelan\, piano and voice. \nAlso featured in the concert will be a new work by group member J Simon van der Walt entitled ‘Prelude\, Gantungan and Dance’ for gamelan\, piano\, and prepared piano.

SUMMARY:An Evening of Gamelan Music with Prasadiyanto
DESCRIPTION:Gamelan Naga Mas and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland present a joint concert to celebrate the work of artist-in-residence Prasadiyanto. \nBetween March and June of this year Pak Prasad has been working with students and members of Naga Mas to develop a programme of traditional Javanese music from his home city of Solo. For the first time in many years\, this concert will bring together both halves of Gamelan Spirit of Hope: the instruments in the pélog tuning\, played by Naga Mas\, and the sléndro instruments currently housed at the Conservatoire.

DESCRIPTION:Naga Mas will be peforming as part of Experience Indonesia\, a day-long event by the Indonesian Student’s Association\, the PPI. As well as gamelan\, the event will feature culture\, music dance and food from every part of the nation. We expect to play during lunch\, around 1130-1230\, and then again around 1500 as part of a musical extravaganza telling the folktale of Bawang Putih Bawang Merah.
