DATE: Saturday, 23 June 2007 VENUE: Botanical Gardens, Glasgow Free event
- 1pm - Family performance and children's workshop
- 3pm - New music concert
A free outdoors concert of new music works infused with the spirit of Balinese and Javanese traditions. This EAST WEST project provides a family concert and children's workshop at 1:00pm in the garden, followed by a new music performance at 3:00pm. Listen to the intricate rhythms of the Indonesian Gamelan ensemble. Great for families.
This event is part Gamelan Naga Mas' East and West project which will bring workshops and concerts to audiences across Glasgow, involving children from the Room 13 Music Project in Bridgeton, where they will learn traditional Indonesian music and perform with the gamelan ensemble in a special concert. This project aims to encourage pupils to explore music creativity and self expression around the Gamelan.
At the West End Festival, our family performance will start at 1pm, followed by a hands-on children's workshop where participants can experience playing the instruments of the orchestra and learn a short piece of music. All of this is followed by a unique performance of traditional and new music written within the spirit of Balinese and Javanese traditions. Suggested age for the workshops is between 5 - 12, and admission to both the concert and the gardens is free. Workshop cannot be booked in advance. Sign up on the day. Bring your picnic rug and enjoy the spacious sounds of these fascinating instruments in the beautiful surroundings of the Botanic Gardens.
